Most fungi of the Boletus genus are edible.  Spores occur within pores or tubes.  Pores are yellow becoming red mamey when ripe.  Color of cap is brown to brownish-red to dark brown-greyish. Smooth and viscous when weather is humid.  Grows in groups or solitary in the mulch of fir forests, rarely in pine–oak forests.
